Would you like to sing in a choir? Do you have children who would enjoy Sunday School or Youth Group? Are you interested in community service? Members of Springbank United Church are involved in a variety of programs to build community and support the work of the church.
Sing for Joy! Springbank United Church is building a choral program using a blend of contemporary and traditional styles. We welcome both teens and adults to our ministry of music. In addition, instrumentalists and children's voices will be included in our presentations. Join us for this exciting opportunity as you share your gift! For more information, please call Donna Willson, Music Director, at 242-9131.
Donna Willson, Music Director Donna Willson is our church's music director. Donna has a lifelong interest in music as expressed in both keyboard and choral performance. She has been a piano teacher in Sprinbank and has sung for ten years with "Calgary Choral." Her special interest is in church music ministry.
Donna encourages celebration and participation by all age groups. Donna has a bachelor's degree in psychology and music, and teaching certification. She works in Rocky View as a substitute music teacher.
The choir practices each Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m.
Outreach As its name suggests, the Outreach program looks to the needs of the larger community, participating in initiatives such as Inn from the Cold, which offers help and hope to the homeless in Calgary. In partnership with Woodcliff United, church members help with food, hospitality, and overnight supervision.
At Christmas, the items from our Mitten Tree and the toys from White Gift Sunday were distributed to Mary Dover House, Inn from the Cold, and the Developmental Disabilities Resource Centre. Baskets of baked goods were delivered to seniors and shut-ins.
The Outreach Committee also sponsors a Sunday night “Speakers Corner.” Guest speakers are invited to talk on subjects of interest to our community.
On-going projects include the collection of toiletries, which go to the homeless through Inn from the Cold, and food, which goes to the Cochrane Food Bank.
United Church Women In addition to its regular meetings, the UCW enjoys a couple of special events, including an annual Christmas party. The UCW is active in its support for the ill and the elderly in the community. The group regularly makes donations to support the work of the church and the Memorial Fund.
Volunteer Opportunities Every day someone makes a difference in the life of Springbank United Church through their volunteer efforts. Many hands help sustain our church throughout the year, contributing to its future as vital part of the community.
Decorating Committee Openings The very talented decorating committee makes our church a beautiful and welcoming sanctuary, especially at special times of the year. If you have some spare time, the committee would welcome new members. The work involves a couple of hours every few months, including generous coffee breaks with cookies and chat.
Church Board Springbank United Church is fortunate to have a strong group of dedicated volunteers serving on the Official Board to provide leadership to all aspects of the life of the church. |
